Coral Bells have become one of our most popular shade perennials over the last 30 years or so, since the introduction of the variety 'Palace Purple' (H. micrantha 'Palace Purple'), a dark leaf color breakthrough that spawned a race among plant breeders for new color combos and leaf characteristics that continue to this day. New varieties of Heuchera are introduced every year, and we love to grow them! All of ours are grown from seed and I'm always excited to see what colors might arise from incidental pollination from different varieties! This particular batch appear to be offspring of Palace Purple and other dark-leaved varieties, with the purple coloring on the back of the chocolate purple leaves. (Often, Heuchera leaf color will change with the cooler weather of fall, with green leaves fading to purples and reds through the winter! They are evergreen in our Zone 7 garden.)
Coral Bells, sometimes called Alumroot, are in the Strawberry family, (but, unfortunately, don't make the delicious fruit!) and they typically bloom with small white or pink flowers, bell-shaped, that rise over the foliage on 12-16" long stalks. (There are some red-flowered varieties which are European, as I recall.) But it's the wide range of foliage colors that are the draw to these exceptional plants, as well as they're practically in-destructable nature, tolerating a wide range of soil and light conditions from full sun to full shade among large shade trees.
Typically, Coral Bells grow to about a foot tall and wide, maybe a bit more, and look their best paired with other foliage textures such as ferns, hostas, and other shade lovers. They're usually best enjoyed edging a path or near the front of a shady bed, especially the darker-leaved varieties.
This offer is for (3) 2.5" pots.
