Hummingbird Vine, sometimes called Trumpet Creeper, is a large deciduous vine with stunning orange to red tubular flowers in late spring to summer that are a magnet for hummingbirds and other pollinators!! This is a large, woody vine and generally not appropriate for smaller gardens, but if you have the space, it is a great addition to the landscape! We have one at the nursery that has made its home on the utility pole. It can also be left to scramble over the ground, however, like any vine, it wants to grow upward toward the sun using whatever might be handy as a prop.

Trumpet Creeper (Campsis radicans) is native to the Southeast US, however, it will grow in Zones 4-10. It can be quite aggressive and needs a sturdy structure to climb on, and it is prone to sprouting from root suckers and will spread by seed, as well. It can be kept under control with careful pruning; it blooms on new wood so spring pruning does no harm, and pruning the seed pods later in the season helps prevent them re-seeding. Sprouts can be mowed or cut back as they appear, as well. Again, this vine is not for everybody, but if you have the space for it the hummers will love you for it!! (For a more controlled hummingbird vine try our Coral Honeysuckle, Lonicera sempervirens)

This offer is for one (1) quart sized plant. Plant in full sun in average to poor soils. May help with erosion control. Some people may experience contact dermatitis, and it may be mildly poisonous if ingested. Deer and rabbits may browse the foliage.
