Many years ago, as I was walking the meadow of my grandfather's farm (now home to Native Plants Plus nursery), a little blue flower in the grass caught my eye. It turned out to be Blue-eyed Grass (Sisyrinchium angustifolium), and I've been taken with them ever since. Once I spotted them I began seeing a lot of them. But this little charmer is not a grass at all, but rather a member of the iris family! The leaves do look somewhat like grass, but upon closer look, you'll find they do resemble iris blades, and they do have a small rhizome typical of the family. The flowers have six colorful blue-violet petals surrounding the the yellow anthers in the middle. Blooming in late spring to early summer, Blue-eyed Grass usually only grows to less than 12" tall, so it is best used along a walkway or the edge of a garden bed. En masse, this tough little plant could be used as a substitute for monkey grass (Liriope sp.), though it is far less aggressive. It will spread lightly, however, by both rhizome and seed. It will also grow in as a potted container plant. Easy to grow, too!

This offer is for three 3.5" pots of Sisyrinchium angustifolium, Blue-eyed Grass.
